The Neue Galerie Dachau only presents temporary exhibitions on contemporary art.

In 1992 the Association of Dachau Galleries and Museums took over rooms in a former factory below the palace for the gallery. Since January 2011 it has displayed 93 exhibitions of recent art of all genres. Numerous local and non-local artists have displayed their work, many of whom have since achieved international recognition in the art market.

In 2012 the Neue Galerie moved into a new space in the historical town not far from the Bezirksmuseum and the Gemäldegalerie. Every year up to four exhibitions of contemporary art are held that show photos/videos, sculpture/installations, painting and experimental art. Following the tradition of the Dachau artist colony of around 1900, the topics of these exhibitions often deal with the role of landscape in contemporary art.
